Exploring the Deep Bonds We Share with Our Dogs through Personal Stories (ft. Isaac & Diesel)

Updated: Aug 3

Another respondent to the survey, who wishes to remain anonymous, shared that her dog, Isaac (brown Labrador), was named after Isaac from the Bible. In the Bible, Isaac's mother was 90 when she had him. Issac the Lab's mother was 14 when she had him, so his birth was somewhat of a miracle---just like the birth of Issac from the Bible. Though Isaac's name was based on a story in the Bible, she also shared that in Norse Paganism, animals have a special place in spirituality---especially dogs who are said to have a heightened sense of spirituality. For instance, if an animal eats an offering, it's seen as a sign of acceptance from the gods.

The respondent has two dogs: Isaac and Diesel. As someone who needs Deep Pressure Therapy (DPT) as well as a larger amount of physical affection, Isaac is extremely beneficial to her since he's so cuddly. Diesel (black Labrador), is super motivated to learn as well as very versatile, which is helpful to her as she discovers how she wants to get into dog training. She also celebrates their birthdays sometimes by giving them a bone and refers to them as her family, though usually in the context of a joke.
